GeoAdapt
Turning hazard data into practical insight
Turning hazard data into practical insight
Providing natural hazards analysis, communication and decision support backed by scientific experience. We can help councils, emergency managers, and communities across Aotearoa to turn complex natural hazard information and data into clear, practical tools they can actually use.
We support councils and CDEM groups to confidently use hazard and climate information in planning and decision-making.
Interpretation of natural hazard and flood datasets for CDEM team use
Support for adaptation planning (including DAPP approaches)
Input to policy, strategy, and hazard-related decision processes
Geospatial and geological analysis to identify and communicate natural hazard risks.
We can extract clear, usable insights from LiDAR and field data relating to natural hazard events, ground-truthing as needed.
Passionate about helping communities, schools, and organisations better understand natural hazards and climate change risk through clear, engaging, and accessible communication.
Our approach combines science communication, visual tools and demonstrations to help make complex processes relevant and tangible.
GeoAdapt is a team effort, grounded in a unique combination of both our field-based and academic experience in geohazards, and Sharon's specialised skillset in leading natural hazards-related local Council, CDEM and climate adaptation projects over the past decade:
Sharon's unique science communication and natural hazard translation skills are well-known. She has wide experience contributing to natural hazard investigation, monitoring and climate adaptation projects in different regions. For example, Canterbury Earthquake Sequence research, leading technical input to South Dunedin Future, and working across multi-hazard investigations on the West Coast in recent years to build community awareness and resilience to natural hazards.
GeoAdapt draws on Jan's extensive experience as a field geologist, and strong capability in LiDAR interpretation, especially of geohazards such as active faults and landslide features. His mountain-goating and hole-digging capabilities are usually critical for ground-truthing this work.
